This Month – January 2019

Hopefully you are all taking a well deserved breath after all the excitement of Christmas. This year again I decided not to send cards but instead make a donation to one of my chosen charities, Crisis (www.crisis.org.uk) who provide help for the homeless across the UK. For the equivalent cost of stamps and cards, my family has been able to help a number of people enjoy food, company, a bed and a shower, and health advice – things we often take for granted but for some people these are normally well out of reach. Thank you to everyone who took the time to send one to me though.

By the time you are reading this the unwrapping will be over with bundles of wrapping paper and maybe a wilting tree past its best.
Christmas rubbish collections in Kilmacolm and Quarriers are usually on Monday so there will be no change to your uplift. However, Renfrewshire Council now has an updated uplift with four different bins. You can check online to see when your uplift date will be by visiting http://www.renfrewshire.gov.uk/checkyourbincollectionday
Our local recycling centres will take various items including trees. They are located at Greenock – Pottery Street, Erskine – Barrhill Road, Johnstone – Miller Street, Linwood – Middleton Road, Paisley – Underwood Road and Renfrew – Haining Road. Details of the opening hours available online at http://www.renfrewshire.gov.uk/HWRCopeninghours. All centres will be closed on New Year’s Day.

Gowanlea Nursery at Johnstone is also a recycling centre for left over Christmas trees. They are closed from 1st to 3rd January, but are delighted to receive your old tree and can also collect for a charge of £6.50. Call on 01505 328921 for more details.
Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for your continued support and look forward to working with you throughout 2019. A special thanks to our local Councillors and many other contributors who provide their news and updates and, of course, the local retailers, tradesmen and businesses for their ongoing support on which our community thrives.
