Gryffe Advertizer

Your Local Monthly Magazine for West Renfrewshire

This Month – July 2019

July is normally a quiet month for the Advertizer with people on holiday and schools closed. However, that doesn’t stop some of our local heroes from being busy doing good deeds in the community.
Just a few weeks ago, Mike Tomenson of Nutech Cleaning took time out of his working day to wash down the village signs going into Bishopton. A very kind gesture thank you.
Ian Beaton from Beaton Brothers was also out and about filling in some of the deeper potholes out on the back roads around Bridge of Weir. He was also able to supply manpower and equipment to help the Brighter Bridge of Weir group following a car crash at the barrier on the corner at Prieston Road. A vehicle mounted the armco barrier and managed to plant itself right on top of the garden area. The barrier needed resiting and the garden area completely replanted. So thank you to Ian and the Brighters.
Last year we heard about local painter and decorator James Martin who repainted the goalposts in Houston village park. And during the late summer storms, LJX Tree Surgeons were quick to come out and chop up the trees blocking the road in Houston. If you’ve heard about any local heroes who need a shout please let us know.
Regarding the accident at Prieston Road, Councillor Natalie Don reports that that junction has been assessed and Council officers have agreed to augment the traffic island by increasing the kerb size, install illuminated keep left bollards and introduce rumble strips on both approaches to the island. While this may not alleviate all concerns, it will at least help slow down oncoming traffic and hopefully prevent a similar accident in the future.
There are some exciting experiences coming for the school holidays. Paisley’s Sma’ Shot Day takes place on Saturday 6th July and Scotland’s National Airshow will be at the East Fortune Airfield near Edinburgh on Saturday 27th July. The Oor Wullie Bucket Trail runs until 30th August across Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen and Inverness. The Bricks Space Adventure will run from 29th June to 13th August with 17 models spread throughout Paisley town centre – more details on p8.
Wishing you all a happy summer, don’t miss our deadline for the August issue – 19th July 2019!
