30 Years of Local News & Community Support
February 2025 marks a major milestone for The Gryffe Advertizer—30 years of championing local businesses, events, and community life. What started as a modest four-page black-and-white flyer has grown into a high-quality, full-colour glossy magazine, hand-delivered to over 11,000 homes across the Gryffe Valley, reaching an estimated 38,500 readers.

From Humble Beginnings to a Community Staple: February 1995
The magazine was founded in February 1995 by Rona McGinn as The Kilmacolm Advertiser, designed as a useful reference for local amenities, news, and events. As its popularity grew, so did its coverage, expanding into surrounding villages. To reflect its wider reach, it was rebranded as The Gryffe Advertizer, cementing its role as a trusted local publication.
Adapting Through the Years
Like any long-standing publication, The Gryffe Advertizer has faced challenges—navigating the rise of digital media, the 2008 financial crisis, and the unprecedented disruption of the Covid-19 pandemic. When lockdowns halted printing and distribution, the magazine pivoted to an online format before returning to print in September 2020. By March 2022, it had reinstated its A4 layout with a fresh new design, proving its ability to evolve while maintaining its local focus.

Supporting Local Businesses & Communities
For three decades, The Gryffe Advertizer has been an essential platform for businesses, community groups, and event organisers. In addition to the magazine, it offers tailored flyer distribution services, allowing businesses to reach specific areas with ease. Whether promoting local trades, hospitality, or wellbeing services, the Advertizer has remained a reliable partner for business growth.
A New Chapter with Experienced Hands
In August 2024, after nearly 30 years at the helm, Rona McGinn retired, handing over to Stuart Mainland and Iain McEwan—experienced publishers with a strong background in community-focused magazines. Under their leadership, The Gryffe Advertizer remains committed to delivering the same high-quality publication that readers and advertisers have come to trust.

Serving the Gryffe Valley & Beyond
Covering Bridge of Weir, Brookfield, Houston, Howwood, Kilbarchan, Kilmacolm, Langbank, and Quarrier’s Village, The Gryffe Advertizer continues to bring great local news to doorsteps every month. In an age of digital media, it proves there’s still something special about a printed magazine connecting communities in a tangible and personal way.
A Friendly & Dedicated Team
Behind the scenes, the Advertizer’s office team—Fiona and Chloe—bring invaluable local knowledge and experience. Whether it’s helping businesses promote their services, creating eye-catching artwork, or sharing exciting news and events, they ensure every edition delivers the best for its readers.
